Coaching Information
Thank you for your interest as a volunteer coach for the upcoming hockey season. We appreciate your dedication and time commitment to the players in the NAYHL program. Without you, this program would not be possible.
Please use this page as a resource and let us know if we are missing anything or if something needs to be edited. If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to the Head of Coaches.
If you would like to be considered for a coaching position, please complete the following steps outlined below. All fees associated with fulfilling the coaching requirements are reimbursable by the NAYHL.
Please note that steps 1- 5 need to be completed before the start of the upcoming season.
USA Hockey Coaching Requirements
1. Register as a member of USA Hockey for the upcoming season. Click here for more information.
2. Complete the background screening.
Starting with the 2019-2020 season in accordance with USA Hockey, Massachusetts Hockey will be conducting a national-level background screen in addition to a CORI screen for any coach, volunteer or administrator who has “regular access to youth”, as defined by the Massachusetts state legislature. 3. Complete the required Safe Sport Training.
Starting with the 2019-2020 season once you complete the Core Safe Sport taring you will be required to take the refresher course each season. For more information please click here. Safe Sport Training will need to be completed every season. For more information please click here.
4. Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level(s) of play you are coaching.
The cost is $10 per module and only needs to be completed once per age level. For more information please click here.
5. Register and attend the required certification clinic.
You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. Clinic Levels 1-3 are held from September 1 to December 31. Level 4 clinics are typically held from April to August. There are usually only 2 Level 4 clinics held in the New England Region, so it’s a good idea to register for a Level 4 as soon as possible. To find a clinic click here.
